HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.112 PLANT ELECTRICAL ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER 20230308PART I DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 8.112 Class Specifications for the Class: PLANT ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER BC-12, BU-01 Duties Summary: Independently installs, maintains, overhauls and repairs plant electrical and electronic control devices and equipment; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is distinguished by its responsibility to independently install, maintain, overhaul, and repair plant electrical and electronic devises and other equipment. Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position).  Installs, maintains, overhauls and repairs plant electrical and electronic devises and equipment such as switching devices, solid state and selenium rectifiers, resistors, capacitators, relays, temperature controls, pressure switches, high and low voltage switchgears, motor control centers, motors, generator, overhead cranes, and distribution, power current control and lighting transformers, etc.;  Installs maintains, and repairs power lighting, electrical and electronic circuits, conduits, electrical outlets, meter loops, underground high and low voltage wiring, pole and line wiring, power transfer switching equipment, mercury vapor and fluorescent lighting, photocell controls, etc.;  Inspects and tests equipment for shorts, grounds and open circuits and diagnoses faulty circuits;  Identifies, isolates, and corrects defective circuits;  Renews and repairs defective parts and fabricates various parts using materials of appropriate conducting, resistance and/or insulating properties;  Performs shop and bench work in the overhaul, repair, testing and calibration of equipment and components;  Maintains and repairs devices on overhead traveling cranes; PART I PLANT ELECTRICAL/ ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER 2 8.112  Installs, maintains, overhauls, repairs, and calibrates electrical and electronic laboratory and field instruments;  Reads and interprets wiring diagrams and schematics;  Modifies electrical and electronic circuitry for proper operational needs;  Estimates material requirements;  May assist in overseeing the work of helpers, apprentices, and others;  May operate a motor vehicle; and  Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of: The theories of electricity and electronics; practices, tools, equipment, instruments, and materials used in electrical and electronic repair; installation, maintenance, testing and repair of electrical and electronic control devices and equipment; and hazards and safety practices of the trade. Ability to: Read and interpret blueprints, plans and diagrams of electrical/electronic circuits; install, maintain and repair electrical and electronic control devices and equipment; use electrical and electronic testing equipment and devices; work with dexterity and safety; follow oral and written instructions; and handle weights loads. This is an amendment to the specification for the class, PLANT ELECTRICAL/ ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, which was approved on October 21, 1993, amended on August 23, 2021, and is to be substituted for that specification. ANDERSON Director of Human Resources PART II DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 8.112 Minimum Qualification Specifications for the Class: PLANT ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER BC-12, BU-01 Training & Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and  six (6) months of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plant electrical and electronic equipment, instruments, and devices. Substitutions Allowed: The following may be substituted for education: A. Four (4) years of full-time general work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma. B. Successful completion of semester credits leading towards a degree or diploma from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for up to four (4) years of the education requirement (15 semester credits = 6 months). C. An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for the education requirement. If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degree, transcripts must be provided, and a thorough review will be conducted by the DHR staff in order for more than one degree to be credited towards the minimum qualification requirements. Additional degrees can be considered if obtained independently through mutually exclusive classes from another degree being considered. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant. Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that PART II PLANT ELECTRICAL/ ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER 2 8.112 he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered. License Requirement: Possession of a State of Hawai'i journey electrician's or industrial electrician's license; possession of a valid motor vehicle operator license (Hawaii Type 3 or equivalent). Selective Certification: Specialized knowledge, skills and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. For such positions, Selective Certification Requirements may be established and certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position. Agencies requesting Selective Certification must show the connection between the kind of training and/or experience on which they wish to base selective certification and the duties of the position to be filled. Tests: Applicants may be required to qualify on an appropriate examination. Health and Physical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical Effort Grouping: Heavy This is an amendment to the specification for the class, PLANT ELECTRICAL/ ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, which was approved on October 21, 1993, amended on August 23, 2021, and is to be substituted for that specification.
