Kekaha Road and ‘Akialoa Road
Improvements Project
Version 2023-04-19
Public Meeting - April 19, 2023
Don't change the character of Kekaha – quiet, rural, family-oriented, safe & close-knit community
There is a lack of pedestrian facilities (sidewalks and crosswalks), especially on routes to local
schools
Speeding is a safety issue; traffic calming measures are needed
Traffic congestion occurs during drop off/pick-up for schools
Community does not want a roundabout at Kekaha Rd / Kōkeʻe Rd / ʻAlae Rd intersection
Flooding and roadway drainage is a recurring problem, particularly for west end of Kekaha Road
up to the Mill area
Walk Audit and Design Workshop Key Takeaways
Implement speed tables and/or speed cushions at key locations
Reconfigure Kekaha Rd – Kōkeʻe Rd – ʻAlae Rd and Kekaha Rd – Kaumuali‘i Hwy intersections
Incorporate paved and unpaved parking areas
Include sidewalks along project corridor (5 to 10 feet wide)
Perform incremental upgrades to drainage infrastructure
