Hawai‘i State DOH Kaua‘i District Health Office announces 173 new cases of COVID-19
on Jan. 2
LĪHU‘E – The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced 173
new cases of COVID-19 on Sun, Jan. 2. This case count includes cases that weren’t reported Saturday,
Jan. 1, due to the New Year’s Day holiday.
Today’s cases bring the number of active cases to 650, with five hospitalized, and 4,332
cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 4,263 confirmed locally, eight probable, and
61 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on
island.
Due to the increase in cases, the Kaua‘i District Health Office has shifted to a simplified daily
case update consisting of total new case counts only. More detailed information on new cases will
continue to be available on the Hawai‘i State Department of Health’s COVID-19 data dashboard. To view

DOH contact tracing:
Due to the high volume of cases, it may take the Department of Health case investigators and
contact tracers a few days to contact you after you’ve received a positive test.
If you test positive for COVID-19, isolate yourself at home immediately and notify your close
