GOBLE, CHIEF (808) 241-4980 Injured hiker rescued on Nounou East Trail Friday WAILUA— First responders rescued a 51-year-old Oregon female on the Nounou East Trail, also known as the Sleeping Giant Trail, in Wailua on Friday. Firefighters were notified of the first report of a 51-year-old female with a leg injury on the Sleeping Giant Trail at approximately 9:45 a.m. Personnel with the Kapa‘a fire station, Rescue 3, Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident. According to a preliminary report, first responders received a call of an injured hiker on the Nounou East Trail and made contact with the hiker at 10:20 a.m. Upon arrival, first responders stabilized the hiker’s leg using a splint, secured her via air rescue vest, and used a short-haul to load and transport her via Air 1 to awaiting firefighters and AMR personnel at a landing zone at Wailua Houselots Park AMR personnel continued treatment on the hiker before transporting her to a local hospital. The scene was cleared at approximately 11 a.m. ###
