DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: March 3, 2022 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TROY TANIGAWA, ACTING COUNTY ENGINEER (808) 241-4993 Wailua Wastewater Treatment Plant effluent exceedance WAILUA – The public is advised of a wastewater effluent exceedance that occurred on Feb. 22, 2022, at the Wailua Wastewater Treatment Plant. The measured Enterococci level had exceeded the permitted limit. An enterococcus sample taken on Feb. 22 measured 8,065 CFU/100ml, above the permitted limit of 7,150 CFU/100ml. Test results in the subsequent days were below the permitted limit. On March 1, the enterococcus sample of 8,065 CFU/100ml was above the permitted limit. However, on March 2, the enterococcus sample was 91 CFU/100ml. The County continues to monitor in accordance with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
