Man airlifted from Kalepa Ridge trail on Saturday
LĪHU‘E – Firefighters responded to a man in distress Saturday afternoon along the Kalepa Ridge
trail in Līhu‘e.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., first responders were notified of a 59-year-old male resident who
was having difficulty breathing along the Kalepa Ridge trail. Bystanders at the scene reported that the
man became unresponsive, and they began administering CPR.
Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 were dispatched to the scene where they found the man, who
had regained consciousness, lying on the ground.
Rescuers airlifted the man using a stokes litter and he was short-hauled to a nearby landing zone
at Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
Awaiting Kapa‘a firefighters and AMR medics provided additional support, and the man was
transported to Wilcox Medical Center in serious condition for further treatment.
