KPD urges motorists to drive safely
LĪHU‘E – As the community prepares to celebrate this year’s graduates and the beginning of
summer break, the Kaua‘i Police Department encourages motorists to drive safely and urges parents and
the community to help prevent underage drinking and unsafe driving.
“The Kaua‘i Police Department is proud of all our graduating seniors, and while this is a time for
celebration, we should always remember that safety should always come first,” said Deputy Chief Stan
Olsen. “Parents, please explain the dangers of drinking and driving to your children. One conversation
could save their life and the lives of others.”
In an effort to prevent unsafe driving before it occurs, the Kaua‘i Police Department will be
increasing enforcement efforts across the island. Police will be checking for those driving under the
influence of intoxicants, driving while distracted on a cell phone, not using proper seat belt restraints,
and other traffic violations.
“It is our goal at KPD that everyone makes it home safely,” added Deputy Chief Olsen. “This is a
big accomplishment for so many of our students. Let’s make sure we all celebrate responsibly.”
