Traffic crash closes portion of Rice street on Friday evening
LĪHU‘E – A portion of Rice street in Līhu‘e was closed in both directions for three hours late on
Friday following a traffic collision.
According to a preliminary report, at approximately 11:25 pm, a two-vehicle collision was
reported on Rice Street fronting the Rice Shopping Center. An on-scene investigation revealed that a
Toyota pickup operated by a 19-year-old female of Lāwa‘i was traveling eastbound on Rice Street when
it crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car. The impact caused the Toyota pickup to flip
several times before coming to rest on its roof.
The 19-year-old driver and 17-year-old male passenger were both transported to Wilcox
Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 37-year-old male operator of the vehicle that
was struck did not sustain any injuries.
