DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: January 11, 2023 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TROY TANIGAWA, COUNTY ENGINEER (808) 241-4993 Applications available for Recycling and Waste Diversion grant LĪHU‘E – The Solid Waste Division is now accepting grant applications for projects that increase recycling and waste diversion consistent with recommendations put forward in the most recent Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan Update https://www.kauai.gov/ISWMP. A total of $80,000 is available in the new competitive grant program. Applications are available on the county website, www.kauai.gov/recyclinggrants. Deadline to turn in a grant application is Friday, Feb. 10, by 3 PM. Applications can be emailed to Keola Aki at kaki@kauai.gov. Project examples include: permitting of food waste composting, capturing food waste for diversion from the landfill, plastic processing innovations, and other programs directly related to recycling and waste diversion. Grant funds are only available to non-profit organizations. Judging of grant application will be based on the following criteria:  Project Strength, planning, and goals- Possible 10 points  Project Impact and potential to effect waste diversion- Possible 5 points  Measurability of Project’s Success- Possible 5 points  Experience of organization in implementing similar projects- Possible 5 points  Budget feasibility- Possible 5 points  Total points- 30 possible A selection committee will review the proposals and rank them according to their overall scores.
