One hospitalized following Līhu‘e traffic crash Sunday
LĪHU‘E – A 21-year-old Kapa‘a man was admitted in stable condition to Wilcox Medical Center
following a traffic crash in Līhu‘e early Sunday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 2 a.m., a Toyota pick-up truck
operated by the 21-year-old male was traveling eastbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway in the vicinity of the
Kaua‘i Department of Water when the operator lost control, struck a curb, and rolled over.
First responders with the Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response treated the
Kapa‘a man on the scene before admitting him to Wilcox Medical Center in stable condition.
Speed and impairment appear to be factors in this crash. Toxicology reports are pending to
determine if the operator was under the influence at the time of the incident. However, the
investigation remains ongoing.
In addition, Kaumuali‘i Highway was closed for 1.5 hours while officers with the Traffic Safety
Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
