Kauaʻi Police investigating suspicious death in Kapaʻa
LĪHU‘E – Kauaʻi Police are investigating the suspicious death of 52-year-old John Diaz Jr. of
Kapaʻa.
On Friday, Feb. 24, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of an
unconscious man with multiple injuries observed in the vicinity of north Kealia Beach. The victim was
treated on scene before being transported by ambulance to Wilcox Memorial Center with life-
threatening injuries, where he later died.
Karl Tondevold, 48, of Nebraska and Christy Selvage, 43, of Kapaʻa were arrested for Murder in
the second degree in connection to the death of John Diaz Jr. Selvage was released pending
investigation, and Tondevold is currently being held at KPD cellblock.
KPD detectives are actively investigating this case. Anyone with information regarding this
