Visitor dies following traffic crash Friday
LĪHU‘E – A male visitor from Kansas died following a traffic crash Friday evening.
The identity of the 76-year-old male has not been released.
At approximately 6 p.m. Friday, Kauaʿi Police Department personnel were dispatched to a report
of a male that fell and collided with a vehicle in the Hokulei Village parking lot in Līhu‘e.
According to a preliminary report, the 76-year-old visitor was crossing the parking lot when he
tripped and fell into a grey Toyota Tacoma operated by a 27-year-old male of Hanapēpē.
First responders with American Medical Response and the Kaua‘i Fire Department treated the
visitor at the scene before transporting him to Wilcox Medical Center, where he later died.
The cause of the crash continues to be investigated by the KPD Traffic Safety Unit, but a
preliminary report indicates that speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors
in this crash. Toxicology reports are pending.
