DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: March 28, 2023 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I KAUA‘I FIRE DEPARTMENT MICHAEL GIBSON, CHIEF (808) 241-4980 First responders locate missing hiker in Kōke‘e Monday KŌKE‘E – First responders located a 26-year-old California hiker in Kōke‘e on Monday. No injuries were reported. Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Waimea fire station responded to the incident. According to a preliminary report, KFD received a call about a missing hiker near the Black Pipe Trail in Kōke‘e at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Monday. At approximately 7:45 p.m., firefighters received the hiker’s coordinates from Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch after the California visitor called 911 and described his location. First responders located the hiker near the Black Pipe Trail at approximately 8:40 p.m. and escorted him to his party at the Pu‘uhinahina Lookout. The scene was cleared at approximately 9:50 p.m. ###
