DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: April 5, 2023 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TROY TANIGAWA, COUNTY ENGINEER (808) 241-4993 Lane closure for sections of Kapa‘a scheduled from April 6 to April 14 KAPA‘A - The Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific LLC., are announcing that portions of Kapa‘a will be closed on April 6, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from April 10 to April 14, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Kawaihau Road and Nunu Road On April 6, Kawaihau Road and Nunu Road will experience a one lane-closure and detours. The closure and detours for Nunu Road and Kawaihau Road are necessary for clearing and grubbing, roadway excavation, sidewalk construction, and roadway construction. Please note that Kawaihau Road will experience temporary traffic shifts and road narrowing. In addition, Nunu Road will be closed from Kawaihau Road to Pelehu Road, with traffic being limited to residents in the closed roadway area. “Local traffic only” signs will be installed to inform motorists. Nunu Road and its intersection with Kawaihau Road will be open to the public once the work has been completed, weather permitting. Kawaihai Road and Mailihuna Road From April 10 to April 14, a portion of Kawaihau Road and Mailihuna Road will experience periodic one-lane closure and road narrowing. The closure is necessary for clearing and grubbing, excavation, and construction. During this time, lanes will be shifted to help accommodate the construction. Motorists are advised to expect brief and occasional delays. Please exercise caution and drive slowly when commuting through the work area. The project aims to construct a peanut-shaped roundabout, sidewalks, paved shoulders, and various other roadway improvements to help improve the safety and operations of the 5-way intersection of these three roads and for people using multiple modes to travel efficiently and safely through Kawaihau Road, Hau'a'ala Road, and Mailihuna Road located in Kapaʻa. This area contains St. Catherine's School/Church, Kapaʻa High School, Kapaʻa Elementary School, Mahelona Hospital, and Gore Park. The project has an estimated completion date of October 2023.
