Firefighters extinguish Kōloa structure fire Thursday; 3 individuals displaced
KŌLOA – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Kōloa on Puni Road
Thursday evening.
No injuries were reported. However, three individuals were displaced.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Puni Road in Kōloa at
approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Personnel from the Kōloa and Kalāheo fire stations; Rescue 3; the Fire Prevention Bureau;
American Red Cross; American Medical Response; personnel with Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, and
the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival, Kōloa fire station personnel were first on scene
and discovered a one-story residential structure ablaze, with the building’s occupants confirmed
outside. They were later joined by personnel from the Kalāheo fire station. Firefighters quickly knocked
down the fire and extinguished it.
After the fire was extinguished, personnel with KIUC turned off power to the home. KFD Fire
Prevention investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 10:20 p.m.
Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $400,000.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting one person who was displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
