DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: January 7, 2023 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I KAUA‘I FIRE DEPARTMENT MICHAEL GIBSON, CHIEF (808) 241-4980 Two displaced following house fire in Wailua on Friday WAILUA – Firefighters extinguished a structure fire on Olohena Road in Wailua Homesteads on Friday, leaving two residents displaced. The couple was not home at the time of the fire and n o injuries were reported. According to a preliminary report, firefighters were dispatched to the two-story home at approximately 10:30 a.m. Personnel from the Līhu‘e, Kaiākea, and Kapa‘a fire stations responded along with KFD’s Rescue 3, the on-duty Battalion Chief and inspectors from the Fire Prevention Bureau. Officers from the Kauai Police Department, AMR medics and a crew from the Department of Public Works also responded to the scene. Firefighters continued their efforts until shortly after 6 p.m. The home is considered a total loss and damages to the structure and contents are estimated to be approximately $880,000. Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced couple. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. ###
