This cross-organization collaborative event, hosted by the County of Kaua‘i, Kaua‘i Community College, and Kaua‘i Economic Development Board, aims to improve long-term sustainability by familiarizing Kaua‘i residents with islandwide efforts and inviting all to get involved. The day’s agenda includes opportunities to connect to more than 20 community-based organizations and learn about agricultural and conservation efforts on Kaua‘i. There will be free chili bowls and a station where participants can create their own pizza using fresh local toppings and KCC’s woodfire pizza oven. The event will also include prize giveaways and fun-filled demonstrations where attendees can learn how to throw net, explore native sea cucumbers, learn about breeding queen bees, and enjoy entertainment by the event’s emcee and local comedian Zavier Cummings, also known as Howsdisguy. “A huge mahalo goes out to Hawai‘i Crop Improvement Association, Hartung Brothers Inc., and Grove Farm Foundation for their help in making this event possible,” said Nalani Brun, director of the Office of Economic Development. “We hope that our community comes out to join in the fun and learning at this inaugural event which will honor agriculture and sustainability efforts across the island.” For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please contact Ana Española at aespanola@kauai.gov or Mariah Opalek at mopalek@hawaii.edu.
