Planning Department announces virtual and in-person workshops for the Kaua‘i
Climate Adaptation and Action Plan
LĪHU‘E – The County of Kaua‘i Planning Department will hold a series of virtual and in-person
workshops in May and June, to discuss climate adaptation strategies with the community.
The purpose of the Kaua‘i Climate Adaptation and Action Plan (Kaua‘i CAP) is to analyze the
county’s vulnerability to climate change and provide recommendations to build resiliency into county
policies, programs, and planning.
“County services and infrastructure will be drastically impacted by climate change,” said Kaʻāina
Hull, Planning Director. “We are engaging residents on adaptation strategies such as managed retreat
transfer of development rights, and nature-based solutions.”
A virtual workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., via Zoom. Participants
are asked to pre-register on the Kaua‘i CAP website, kauaiadaptation.com.
A series of in-person workshops will be held as follows:
• Wednesday, May 17, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Līhu‘e Civic Center’s Mo‘ikeha Conference
Room 2 (also known as the Planning Commission Room);
• Thursday, June 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Kōloa Neighborhood Center;
• Tuesday, June 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Waimea Neighborhood Center;
• Tuesday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the St. Catherine’s School Cafeteria; and
• Thursday, June 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Hanalei Elementary School.
A light dinner will be provided at all in-person workshops. The workshops will build upon
previous community engagement, public surveys, and technical assessments. The project consultant is
Raimi + Associates, with support from Dr. Chip Fletcher and HR&A Advisors. For more information,
please visit kauaiadaptation.com.
Additionally, an online poll will be available on kauaiadaptation.com from May 10 to June 21,
