Trash chute at the Hanapēpē Refuse Transfer Station closed until further notice
HANAPĒPĒ – The Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division announces that the trash
chute at the Hanapēpē Refuse Transfer Station (RTS) is unavailable until further notice, due to electrical
issues. However, bagged trash is currently being accepted at the facility.
Weather permitting, all other services, including green waste and metal recycling remain
available at the Hanapēpē RTS.
Customers needing to dispose of loose mixed waste are being directed to the Kekaha Landfill.
Work to reopen the trash chute is being expedited; however, due to the nature of the repair,
officials anticipate that the acceptance of loose mixed waste will be suspended for an extended period.
Updates will be announced if new information becomes available.
