HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.070.1 GOLF COURSE GROUNDSKEEPER II 20241010 PART I DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 7.070.1 Class Specifications for the Class: GOLF COURSE GROUNDSKEEPER II BC-04, BU-01 Duties Summary: Operates and maintains passenger and tractor type power mowers; cares for and maintains golf course greens, tees, and fairways; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is distinguished by its responsibility to operate and maintain passenger type mowers and tractor type power mowers as a substantial part of their work assignment in addition to caring for and maintaining golf course greens, tees, and fairways. Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position). Operates and maintains passenger and tractor-type power mowers; Maintains and makes minor repairs on various power mowers, including lubricating, cleaning spark plugs, refilling battery water, cleaning radiators, checking hydraulic systems, changing tires, and adjusting belts and chains; Disassembles, adjusts, and sharpens individual cutting units; Performs manual work, such as sodding greens, applying top dressing and fertilizer, removing weeds, repairing holes, watering and trimming greens, and applying insecticides and fungicides; Periodically moves the cup to different locations on the greens; Keeps tee-off areas fertilized and trimmed and adjusts tee markers; Keeps ball washers supplied with soap, water, and towels, and replaces worn brushes; Helps keep fairways trimmed and clear of debris and trims trees and shrubs; PART I GOLF COURSE GROUNDSKEEPER II 2 7.070.1 Cleans ditches and ponds; Operates various power mowers for mowing fairways and other grassed areas; Repairs PVC piping leaks and breaks, including cleaning, priming, and gluing connections, and may assist in replacing galvanized piping if necessary; May operate trucks to transport personnel and equipment to and from work locations; and Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge of: The operation and maintenance of power mowers typical of this class; occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the work; the care of golf course greens and fairways; the equipment and tools used in greens maintenance work; the impact of golf as it affects greens maintenance work. Ability to: Operate maintain and make minor repairs to power mowers; operate tools and equipment used in groundskeeping; perform basic plumbing repair tasks; learn methods and procedures for grounds maintenance work, including the use of insecticides and fungicides; understand and follow oral and written instructions; follow safety rules and practices; handle weights and loads effectively; works harmoniously with others. ANDERSON Director of Human Resources PART II DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 7.070.1 Minimum Qualification Specifications for the Class: GOLF COURSE GROUNDSKEEPER II BC-04, BU-01 Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school. • six (6) months of work experience at the Wailua Golf Course in grounds and landscape maintenance, which included experience or training in the operation or repair of passenger or tractor-type power mowers or similar motorized equipment. Substitutions Allowed: The following may be substituted for education: A. Four (4) years of full-time general work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma. B. Successful completion of semester credits leading towards a degree or diploma from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for up to four (4) years of the education requirement (15 semester credits = 6 months). C. An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for the education requirement. If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degree, transcripts must be provided, and a thorough review will be conducted by the Human Resources staff in order for more than one degree to be credited towards the minimum qualification requirements. Additional degrees can be considered if obtained independently through mutually exclusive classes from another degree being considered. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant. PART II GOLF COURSE GROUNDSKEEPER II 2 7.070.1 Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that they have the ability to perform the duties of the position for which they are being considered. License Requirement: Possession of the appropriate licenses or certificates as required of the position. Selective Certification: Specialized knowledge, skills and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. For such positions, Selective Certification Requirements may be established, and certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position. Departments/Agencies requesting Selective Certification must show the connection between the kind of training and/or experience on which they wish to base selective certification and the duties of the position to be filled. Tests: Applicants may be required to qualify on an appropriate examination. Health and Physical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical Effort Grouping: Heavy This is an amendement to the specification for the class, GOLF COURSE GROUNDSKEEPER II, which was approved on September 12, 2024, and is to be substituted for that specification.
