•Envisioned by the public at Community Workshops in 2013
•Adopted as part of the South Kaua‘i Community Plan in 2015
•Pre-COVID public meetings confirmed the preliminary design:
–December 19, 2019 – Resort Property Stakeholders
–January 23, 2020 – General Public
–February 25, 2020 – Other Business Interests (retailers, landowners)
•Funding request and traffic resolution approved by Council
•Received $25 M RAISE Grant from FHWA in 2022
•January 2025 – Project Update presented to Kōloa Community Association
•October 15, 2025 (today) – Construction starts
•December 2027 – Projected end date

protected by a wall

–Some trees not protected as planned, as they
were inadvertently not shown on some drawings

•Large trees that are proposed to be removed:
–Monkeypod tree on the west side of Po‘ipū Road, 200 feet south of Kōloa Road:
•Conflict with sidewalk on the west side of Po‘ipū Road, leading to Kōloa Elementary School
–Two large banyan/ficus trees at Kiahuna Plantation
Drive (near Keoki’s) (one each on the NE and NW
corners)
•Conflict with the roundabout at this intersection.
•There are currently two large trees each corner, one tree will
remain on each corner
•All four corners of the intersection will retain one large tree

•Shower trees along Waikomo Stream, north of existing roundabout
–48 trees shown in County right-of-way (most are
shower trees, but not all), more outside right-of-way
–Were not shown on some drawings
–Those in grading area flagged for removal
–Sidewalk being redesigned to save as many as possible
–At least 38, possibly as many as 44 of the estimated 48 trees can be saved
–4 to 10 trees will need to be removed

–Landscaping design to be completed during the
project
